This is the first linux laptop I have
refurbished and the one I can't seem to part with. It is a bit bigger
and heavier and bulkier than others so it has a real solid feel to it.
Other than editing things I shouldn't play with in grub and a couple
other files it seems pretty bulletproof. I have no fear of forgetting
to save a work in progress and doing 10 other things. As with any
operating system there are a few tweaks for drivers.

There
were very few challanges with installing Puppy Linux 1.0.3 on this
laptop compared to several other operating systems I had tried. The
single biggest problem was setting up the sound. After googling several
sites I found a configuration that worked.
modprobe cs4232 io=0x530 irq=5 dma=1 dma2=0 mpuio=0x330 mpuirq=9 synthirq=5 synthio=0x388
This line was added to /rc.d local and sound works great.
I
have done a lot of testing with this machine and killed it several
times by trying to do things that I didn't understand or simply typed
incorrectly. I have since learned that if you want to do a lot of
testing it is really simple to back up your pup001 file so no worries
there. Boot to the live cd, rename 2 files, remove the cd and reboot.
I am hoping to begin selling a few Puppy machines so I can buy and
build more. I plan on making a donation from each one I sell to help
with the development of
Puppy Linux. Possibly the most versitile little operating system I have ever used.
